During the university phase, a student enjoys a large margin of freedom and responsiblilty, but it is up to the student to use this freedom and responsibility in a productive manner. Added to this is the fear by students and parents alike, of the pressure of course loads, as well as the distance from home.
Moncloa helps students to use their freedom and responsibiliy in way that will help them develop in both maturity and attitude for the next stages in their lives.
The features of hard work, family atmosphere, and cultural activities, all help the students of the university to maximize their college years and prepare for those to come. |

Family Atmosphere
LIVING TOGETHER. The coexistence atmosphere at Moncloa is centered around the family, whereby everyone knows each other and learns the personalities of each other. Friends are made at Moncloa that last a lifetime. There is no ill-treatment, wherein the upperclassmen help the new residents to fit into university life.
GATHERINGS. Everyday, aside from other cultural activities, college life revolves around the Gathering. During the coffee session after lunch, in a relaxed setting, students and professors meet to talk about the day, current affairs in society, or past events. Attendance is not required, but it fosters development and relationships between the students and the teachers.
THE DINING ROOM. Following a tradition of elegance and excellent cooking, the dining room is another place to meet. All the students eat together, which again provides for the family atmosphere. Celebrations at the college usually feature diverse activities and special culinary arrangements.
SCHEDULE. In order to promote effective usage of time, studying, and service, the university follows a predetermined schedule created by the Director. This schedule is particularly useful for first-year students.

Events and Celebrations
Other attractive aspects of life at Moncloa are the happiness and excellent attitude that is present. In order to create this atmosphere and to spread it amongst all the students, the Department of Fellows organizes events all year long, with some forming great tradition: the New Celebration; the Immaculate Feast (with a performance by the students for family and friends), the Christmas and Kings Celebration, the Celebration of Regions, etc.
But the most important event of the year, is the Falla (Structure) of the Feast of Saint Joseph. Since its inception in 1944, Vicente Mortes, Dean of the Colgeio Mayor, together with other Valencians and students, have created a monumental structure and, in tradition, have burned it as well. The art, the irony, and the social criticism, and the effort from the all the students help to make a very enjoyable festival dedicated to the patron of the college. The construction of the Falla is a staple of college life, and one which produces much pride in Moncloa´s residents.
The last Saturday in November has held the annual Alumni Festival, whereby former and present residents of all ages meet and discuss the projects of the Fundación Moncloa 2000 and recollect on the past 65 years of the university´s history.

Christian Liberty
All day long and all week, the Colegio lives in a state of Christian familiar piety with such activities as the prayer of the Rosary, Grace, and Sunday Mass.
The attendence to these religious functions is always voluntary. This tradition of liberty has been in place sine 1943, when it was treated as an authentic exception to the Christian ideals of years past. The Colegio Mayor is open to students of all religious faiths and beliefs.
|
| |
The atmosphere of liberty allows for personal Christian maturation of many of the residents.
Aside from the activities of the Colegio Mayor, there are some other forms of Christian formation, entrusted to the Prelature of Opus Dei (Christian doctrine courses, religious retreat courses, meditation, study circles, etc.). In accordance with the disseminating spirit of St. Josemaría, we remember that in a Christian university, "studying is a serious obligation," and that our work should be done to perfection and with a spirit of service.
Anyone who wishes can meet with an Opus Dei priest to talk about any issues one may have. |
