The Colegio Mayor Moncloa is an academic university affiliated with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, which offers an atmosphere of coexistence that features an academic regiment as a element toward personal growth. The Area of Studies organizes the program of academic activities, which develops the intellectual and cultural working habits of the students, and which also allows for a personalized academic orientation.

The academic mission of Moncloa is to promote the development of effective study habits, not only for the university studies, but also for later on in life. This is the central goal of the Colegio Mayor. In this way, we encourage a demanding atmosphere focusing on good use of time, which ultimately increases the student´s concentration. Our Study Rooms and the Library are specifically dedicated to such activities as described above.

When it comes to the allocation of such official positions, which are mentioned below, the quarterly grades are a fundamental factor.

 

  Who makes up the Area of Studies?
 

- University professors Profesores universitarios and professionals affiliated with the Colegio Mayor.
- Senior students who have obtained and retained a high academic standing within the Colegio Mayor.
- Education Department: Luis Manuel Martinez Domínguez (Profesor at the Centro Universitario Villanueva, Doctor of Pedagogy and Creative Education).
-Program Coordinator: Daniel Hernández Castellano (Student, Aeronautical Engineering)

 
 

To whom are the studies directed?

All university residents, with first-year and advanced classes available. Affiliated students can also take classes at the Colegio Mayor (these students can receive transfer credit from the university).

Other non-resident, non-affiliated students must interview with the university before classes become available to them. Once approved, these students can take part in the Area of Studies and/or participate in academic activities.

1. EFFECTIVE STUDY TECHNIQUES (D. Luis Manuel Martínez). Duration: 7 hours. Credits recognized by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (complete cycle)

2. COMPOSITION: WRITTEN EXPRESSION (D. Juan Gómez Blanes). Duration: 5 hours. Credits recognized by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (complete cycle)

3. EXAM PREPARATION AND STRESS MANAGEMENT (D. Luis Manuel Martínez). Duration: 3 hours. Credits recognized by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (complete cycle)

4. ORATION: PUBLIC SPEAKING (D. Juan Gómez Blanes). Duration: 5 hours. Credits recognized by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (complete cycle)

5. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT (D. Adolfo Cazorla). Duration: 4 hours.

6. COEXISTENCE STUDIES Duration: 1 weekend.

 
 
 
 

Personal Mentors

The Area of Studies offerse a personal tutorship program. This personal advice and help from upperclass university students helps ease students into college life and introduces them to the academic rigor. Through these means, each student will finalize a time when he can meet with his tutor, and whereby the tutor will create a journal of supervision, production, and planning, relating to the activities carried out each session.

Professional Seminars and Study Groups

Director: Adolfo Cazorla, Advising Professor of the Area of Studies

The students will be organized into study groups according to each´s academic concentration. Each group promotes professional academic growth through various activities. Some of the study groups that have been formed are as follows:

OPIM (International Politics Observatory of Moncloa). Discussions, conferences, information sessions about current international themes and the history of international relations. President: Ían Pérez, Law and International Relations student.

Professional Development Seminar (5 sessions). Taught by Adolfo Cazorla, General Secretary of the UPM.

Legal Practice Course (Rafael Caballero, Professor of Administrative Law). Practice cases, institution visits, court case attendance.

Architecture Course (Ignacio Vicens, Chair of Design, UPM).

European Forum of Law Students. A community of European law students and professors. The Rome Meeting convenes each year during Holy Week, during the UNIV Congress. More information can be found at www.e-students.org.

Professional Activities

Director: Adolfo Cazorla, Advising Professor of the Area of Studies

Upper-level students at Moncloa, have the opportunity of receiving professional advising classes by academic tutors and other professionals affiliated with the university.

Each student can create his own personal professional development plan, taking advantage of his tutor for guidance.

All of the eduaction adquired from life at Moncloa is very relevant to the working world. Developments especially include, growth through personal abilities, teamwork , personal direction, diversity management, etc.

In addition to the activities above, job-searching classes are offered to upperclass students. An example of this, is the seminar "Currículum Vitae" taught by Adolfo Cazorla.

First-year student conferenes, which intend to help students create the principles of formality, education, etiquette, social norms, courtesy, and good manners.
